Isn't it funny when you want something so bad you can hardly stand it. And having to wait for it just seems completely torturous! Ok, well that was me for the past 4 1/2 MONTHS!
My dear hubby had submitted his applications at the end of January for PHD programs at Brigham Young University, Texas A&M, University of New Mexico, and University of South Carolina. Well, we got rejections from BYU and from TAM. Which was a little bit of bummer but we still had two great schools to hopefully get into. Well, about 1 1/2 months ago, we found out we were accepted to the University of New Mexico. It wasn't our first choice, but it's a great school and so we were excited to go there. We still hadn't heard anything from South Carolina yet, so we still had hope.
Then, the day came when we got the rejection letter for USC. Talk about being totally bummed out. I tried to take in all in stride, although I failed miserably. I really had my heart set on South Carolina. Well, low and behold my hubby got an e-mail from the professor at USC and he told him that there had been a misunderstanding and that he wasn't accepted yet, but he wasn't rejected either. They wanted to still give him a shot. So, long story short, my hubby went to a meeting with this professor at a conference in California (about 3 weeks after we were told they were on fence about acceptance or not) and we thought he would make his decision then. But, he didn't. He then told us that he wouldn't be back into town until 2 weeks later.
So two weeks pass. Still nothing. By the end of the 3rd week we finally contacted him, and he told us we were first on the agenda that day. At the end of the day--still nothing. Then yesterday (Saturday), we get a call from the Professor and he tells Ry--"Your're in!!" What a feeling of utter elation! I thought this day would never come! The limbo we had been living in, was emotionally and even physically draining. It was such a relief to know that my wonderful husband Ryan would be going to such an amazing University. Not that the University of New Mexico isn't a fabulous school, but for the field of study he wants to go into, USC is a better choice.
So with that said--going through this whole experience has given me a great appreciation for those that are patient. I think the Lord knew that I needed a lesson on the subject, because if you know me, you know that I am not a very patient women. But now I am slowly learning that all good things come in time. And it is through that time that we learn more about ourselves and it is also through that time that the Lord helps us appreciate those things way more when we have to wait for them.
So, on Wednesday my family and I will be going on a fun family trip with our extended family for two weeks and we couldn't be more excited! So if you don't hear from me for a bit, that is why :) But after we get back, we will have roughly 3 weeks to pack up our home and move all the way across the country from Utah to South Carolina! What a wonderful adventure this will be! We couldn't be more excited!
Sorry, I know this has turned into a novel, but if there is anyone that is familiar with the Columbia, South Carolina area, I would love to hear anything you know about the area! Like, fun family activities etc. Thanks so much!
Hope you all have a wonderful night! Here is a new adventure!
